Biographical Notes
Arthur Collingwood Liggins was born on 19 October 1893 at Dunedin, the son of Thomas Arthur and Charlotte Allison (née Hall) Liggins. He was educated at Arthur Street, St Clair and Musselburgh schools, al in Dunedin, and left to go out to work in his fourteenth year. He was a mechanic for Brehaut Bros, Timaru, when he enlisted, and named his mother, Mrs C. A. Liggins, Christchurch, as next-of-kin. A. C. Liggins left for Trentham on 18 October 1915 with South Canterbury’s quota for the Ninth Reinforcements. Arthur married Winifred Richards in 1926. He died on 13 July 1952 at Greymouth, aged 58 years, and was buried in the Greymouth Cemetery.
