Biographical Notes

John Manning was born, he declared, on 14 January 1892 at Cork, Ireland. He named his cousin, John Stephen Hayes of Temuka, as his next-of-kin. J. S. Hayes was called up for service. J. Manning, 34701, returned to New Zealand per the “Arawa” (Draft No. 244), reaching Lyttelton about 12 May 1919. John married Theresa Dobbyn in 1924. He died on 7 March 1958, there being a discrepancy between his age at death and his birthdate. Theresa died in 1972 and is buried with John in Memorial Park Cemetery, Christchurch.
