Biographical Notes

Charles John Gawler, born on 16 August 1897 at Waimate, was the third son of Robert Pinney and Agnes (née Tully) Gawler. He was educated at Oamaru North School and, after time in England when the family went there in 1906, attended Ashburton and Prebbleton schools. Charles married Caroline Sargent in 1926. Charles Gawler also saw service in World War II. George Gawler also served in World War I.
