Biographical Notes

John Francis Muller was born on 20 October 1871 at Timaru, the younger son of John and Margaret (née Madden) Muller. His father John who was from Prussia, was naturalised in 1865; his mother Margaret came from Tipperary, Ireland. They were buried at Timaru, as were their daughters, Honora and Agnes.

He enlisted, as John Francis Miller, with the Australian Imperial Force at Kalgoorlie, Western Australia on 7 March 1917. He was 45 years old, born at Timaru, a miner, single and Roman Catholic. His nominated next-of-kin was his sister – Mrs W. F. Bennetts, Kaitangata, N.Z. Agnes Mary Muller married William Frederick Bennetts in 1892. His permanent address was Golden Dream Lease, Kalgoorlie, Western Australia. He was discharged on 21 May 1917 at Perth, Western Australia, as permanently unfit for active service.

John Francis Muller died in 1941 at Kalgoorlie and was buried in the Kalgoorlie Cemetery.
