Biographical Notes

William Kennedy was born on 29 November 1890 at Timaru, the eldes son of Patrick and Mary (Minnie, née Dempsey). He was educated at St Andrews School, his father being a farmer in the district. Patrick Kennedy died in 1920 and Minnie in 1924. Both are buried in the Timaru Cemetery.

William Kennedy enlisted with the Australian Imperial Force on 20 October 1916 at Sydney, New South Wales. He was 25 years 11 months old, a labourer and single. He named his father as next-of-kin – Patrick Kennedy, St Andrews, South Canterbury, New Zealand. Later – at his death - his next- of kin was Mrs Mildred Ann Kennedy, 321 Geehan Street, Auswood, NSW. William Married Mildred Ann Bisby in 1921 at Waverley, New South Wales. They lived at Burwood, New South Wales, William employed as a lift attendant. He died in 1937, his death being registered at Randwick, and Mildred died in 1974.
