Biographical Notes
Peter Allan Dunn was the younger son of Peter Allan Dunn and his wife Margaret Gibson née Allan. He was educated at Waimataitai, Washdyke and Pleasant Point schools. Corporal George Niall, writing from hospital at Plymouth, England, in 1915, notes: "A start was then made to carry in our wounded, whom we could hear moaning on top of the bank between two trenches. Peter Dunn, from the Point, and I, were working together as apair, bringing the wounded in. We were just carrying in the fourth man when I got struck with a bullet . . . ." (Timaru Herald, 15 September 1915). Peter's older brothe, William Robert Allan Dunn died in 1919 at Christchurch, a war death.
