Biographical Notes

David Gordon Harris was the son of Richard and Sarah (née Hughes) Harris, the twelfth child in a family of seventeen. Richard and Sarah are buried at Timaru. David was educated at Kennington School in Southland before moving to Waimataitai School, Timaru, in mid 1905. David married Ivy COLWILL in 1919. His brother George Albert Harris also enlisted for World War I.
