Biographical Notes

Clarence Reade Booth was the youngest of the family of David and Annie Bald (née Thompson) Booth, of Hampden. His mother died in 1898; she and David are buried in the Oamaru Cemetery, and Clarence with them. Clarence was educated at Maheno and Hampden schools, leaving at the age of 15. Clarence had been living in the Temuka district for some years before the war and was at Clandeboye when he was called up. On 25 June 1917, he left with men from the South Canterbury military district for camp.
