Biographical Notes

Alfred Ernest Dawson was the son of Ernest and Gertrude (née Borgfeldt) Dawson. He was educated at various Christchurch schools - Papanui, East Christchurch, Fendalton. Alfred was a cleaner at Timaru when he was called up. Embarking at Tilbury on 12 March 1919 for the return home, Alfred reached Lyttelton, New Zealand by the “Corinthic” in April 1919, one of 1142 soldiers aboard. In 1922, he married Lucy Isabella Carlyle, by whom he had a family.
