Biographical Notes

Eric Gould was the son of Charles Robert and Catherine Gould. He was educated at Waimataitai and Timaru Main schools. Eric was discharged in 1919 to Romford, Essex, England. He had married Betha May Burton on 28 October 1917 at St Edward the Confessor, Romford. Eric and Betha had a son Eric John Gould born in 1919 at Romford. In 1939 Eric and Betha and possibly their son were living at Dagenham, Essex, Eric employed as a motor driver for the newspaper. The Methodist Church of Timaru placed a handsome window in the Bank Street Church as a memorial for the war victims of the congregations. Apart from the names of the fallen appearing on the window, the names of all who served were inscribed in a book which was to be preserved in the Church. Included in the names was that of Eric Gould.
