Biographical Notes

Roland Allen was the son of Jemima Ann Allen née Fisher. Jemima had married firstly Henry McDonald in 1882 at Timaru. After Henry's death, she married William James Allen, a widower. William died on 31 December 1892 at Timaru. Roland was educated at Timaru South School. Private Roland Allen was one of the recruits for the Tenth Reinforcements who left South Canterbury in mid November 1915 for Trentham Camp. In 1929 at St Peter's Church, Temuka he married Lillian Eliza Burns. His brother Robert George also served with the New Zealand Forces, and another brother, Jacob, was called up.
