Biographical Notes

Douglas Dawson was the son of John Wilson and Anne (née Smith) Dawson. In 1891 Douglas and some of hisw siblings were in the care of a woman at New Machar; in 1901 they were all home at Broomhills Farm, Old Machar, Aberdeenshire. Douglas stated that he had been inNew Zealand for three years, having come in 1914 per the 'Orsova'. He made a visit home in 1953. He returned to Fairlie, New Zealand with Draft 187 which brought a large number of soldiers home in early October 1918. Douglas married Ella Rita Leyden in 1925 in New Zealand.
