Biographical Notes

Edmond William Thomas Dorward was the eldest son of Thomas Edmond Wilson and Phillipa Mary (née Emmett) Dorward. He was baptised at Geraldine Presbyterian Church. Edmond, possibly known as William, started his education at Rangitata Station School. His father died in 1914 and left a widow and several children. His brother George Frederick James Dorward was called up and appealed in ealry 1918, saying that he was the main support of his widowed mother and her six children, and that his only brother of military age was away on active service. In fact Williamd had died by thie time, after initially being posted as missing.
