Biographical Notes
John Mechen was the son of Patrick and Margaret (née McNeilly) Mechen. He married Isabella Thomson in 1888 at Timaru. They had a family of five before Isabella died at the birth of the fifth child. John's son both enlisted for World War I, George serving overseas.
