Biographical Notes

John Henry Shelker was the second of the three sons of William Shelker (Schilke, from Prussia) and Ellen née Gallagher. John was educated at Timaru Main School. When he enlisted he was a clerk at the Wellington General Post Office. His older brother, William Charles Shelker, was listed on the World War I Reserve Rolls. J. H. Shelker also served in World War II.
