Biographical Notes
Alick Rangi Gillespie Donaldson was the son of John and Marion (née McPherson) Donaldson, both of whom hailed from Scotland. He was educated at Arthur Street School and Caversham School in Dunedin, going to Selwyn Collegiiate at the age of 14. Alick was a bank clerk when he was called up in 1916. In 1924 he married Violet Helen Reith.
