Biographical Notes

Clifford Roy Anning was the son of Frederick Thomas and Isabella (née Sunckell) Anning. He received his early schooling at Akaroa, transferring to Redcliffs School in the Waimate district in 1899. His father died in 1905 and is buried in the Waimate Cemetery, joined by his mother in 1923. Clifford left Timaru with South Canterbury's quota of the 16th Reinforcements on 3 May 1916
