Biographical Notes
Albert Edward Darby was the eldest of four children of Herbert (Hubert) Henry and Amelia Ann Darby. He was educated at Timaru Main and Gleniti schools. Albert's mother died in 1907, aged 33 years, and is buried in the Timaru Cemetery. His father also served in World War I with the Samoan Relief; he died in 1942 and is buried at Temuka. A. E. Darby returned to New Zealand in May 1919 per the "Carpentaria". He married Bertha Iris Saunders in 1928. .
