Biographical Notes
Walter Hillary Pearce, who enlisted as Walter Henry Pearce, was the second son of Edwin and Margaret Jessie (née Edwards) Pearce. His mother died in 1902. Walter was baprised at St Albans Anglican Church, Pleasant Point. His brother Ernest died in the Timaru Hospital in 1909 as a result of a riding accident. His brother Andrew also served in in World War I. His sister Louisa married John Alexander McAuley who died of disease near Gallipoli in 1915. Walter married Beratrice Allen in 1925.
