Biographical Notes

Frederick William Erskine was the only son of Robert Campbell and Mary Jane (Polly, née Unwin) Erskine. He had three sisters. He first attended Riccarton School in Christchurch, before going to Waimataitai School in 1903 when the family moved to Timaru.. Fred enlisted at Nelson in August 1914, on the outbreak of war. In 1914 he fathered a child - Roger Frederick Ching.
