Biographical Notes

Frank William Sturgess was the son of William and Ann (maybe née Chandler) Sturgess, of Waimate. He married Rhoda Ann Sandrey on 29 November 1916 at Christchurch. He was initially rejected for military service on account of a bad knee and flat foot. A daughter, Noeline Ann Sturgess, was born on 26 June 1918, after Frank had enlisted.
