Biographical Notes
Maria Henrietta Wilkie, the daughter of William Dick and Jane Henrietta (née Read) Wilkie, of Manse Street, Waimate, South Canterbury, was born on 8 November 1883 at Allanton, Otago. She was educated at Allanton, Greytown and Pine Hill schools, all in Otago. She studied also at the Dunedin Technical School. Marie married Major James Hargest in 1917 in England.
