Biographical Notes

Richard Arthur Victor Young was the son of Richard and Sarah Elizabeth (née Budd) Young. Richard enlisted under an assumed name - John Albert Smith, perhaps to disguise the facte that he hadn't rechaed 20 years of age. His date of birth was given as 1894, whereas it was actually 1887. A statutary declaration proved his correct name. He married Elizabeth Mabel Pretoria Gaby (Mabel) in 1919. .
