Biographical Notes

Joseph Edward Woodhead was born on 23 March 1893 at Temuka, the younger son of John Blanchard and Susannah (née Uden) Woodhead. His mother died aged 25 when Joseph was just 18 months old. He attended the Temuka and Milford (South Canterbury) schools. On 25 December 1917 at St Peter's Church, Temuka, Joseph married Ethel Muriel Claridge.
