John Waller was born on 24 April 1898 at Geraldine, the third son of Henry and Emily (née Burnham) Waller. His initial education was at the Orton School, then in April 1910 he transferred to the Geraldine School. Like their father who died at 98 years of age, brothers John and Joseph were long-lived.
