Biographical Notes

John was the son of Martin and Ellen Thyne. The family emigrated to New Zealand from Clare, Ireland and arrived at Timaru in 1875 on the Duke of Edinburgh with seven children aged from 19 to 3 (John being the youngest). John appears on the 1911 Electoral Roll at Studholme Junction. He was listed in the New Zealand Gazette in 1916 (page 3869) as being called for military service, but no military records have been found. He would have been aged about 40 in 1916.
