Biographical Notes
Thomas Matthews (sic) is listed in the Timaru Technical School roll book for 1913 as an adult student, living in Avenue Road. His occupation was listed as being a farmer studying sheep shearing.
The New Zealand Herald of 31 August 1915 listed Thomas [son of Catherine Mathews of Avewnue Road, Timaru], of the Canterbury Infantry Battalion, as being wounded in the right thigh and head.
Thomas' brother, Samuel Mathews (no. 16173), also served during the First World War.
