Biographical Notes

This Michael Joseph FITZGERALD was a son of William (Bill) and Mary Ann (nee MADDEN) FITZGERALD. At the date of Attestation, michael said that he had three people absolutely dependent on him (mother, brother and sister). When he was granted a Certificate of Leave in lieu of Discharge, Michael was described as of good character. He had left home on 19 June 1918 and arrived at Camp on 18 June 1918. He married Cecilia Johanna BROSNAN in 1918. Michael had belonged to the Hibernian Association and was also a member of the Celtic Football Club. Both groups paid their respects at his funeral.
