Biographical Notes
Son of Jeremiah & Deborah (nee O'CONNOR) KELLY. Brothers James Joseph & Jeremiah also served in WWI. Educated at Sacred Heart Timaru, Gleniti & Fairview Schools. Prize for proficiency in Standard II in 1907 at Wai-iti (later Gleniti) School. Prize for proficiency in Std IV in 1909 & prize for composition in Std V in 1910 at Fairview School. Gained Proficiency in central examinations in Std VI in 1911 at the Catholic Boys' Timaru School. He left Timaru for the Front on 11 April 1917. He returned home in December 1918. Welcomed home on 27 June 1919 at Washdyke Hall.
