Biographical Notes

Albert Howard Hoskins was born on 17 June 1898 at Waimate, the elder child and only son of Albert James and Minnie Laura (née Staples) Hoskins. Albert, junior enlisted on 29 July 1918 after he was called up. He as a law student, currently studying and serving with the 2nd South Canterbury Regiment. Giving his home address, he named his mother as next-of-kin - Mrs Minnie Laura Hoskins, 60 Lower High Street, Waimate. He was a member of the South Canterbury quota of the Forty-sixth Reinforcements which left Timaru by the north express on 9 September 1918 after parading at the drill hall. A. H. Hoskins did not serve overseas. He married Edna Lilian Peverill in 1926. Albert Howard Hoskins died on 9 July 1888 at Auckland, aged 90 years. Edna had died in 1985. Both were cremated and their ashes were interred at Purewa Cemetery, Auckland.
