C. A Daily registered at Temuka in April 1916. He was a carpenter at Temuka when he enlisted on 28 June 1916 at Trentham, naming his mother as next-of-kin – Mrs Mary Jane Daily, 248 Manchester Street, Christchurch. Cecil was already serving with the 2nd South Canterbury Regiment. He was posted to J Company, 18th Reinforcements, then discharged on 21 July 1916, being medically unfit but good for short service. When his name was drawn in the ballot in February 1917, he enlisted on 26 February 1917 at Timaru.
