Nelson, Waimate, returned to New Zealand by the “Mamari” which was scheduled to arrive at Auckland on 18 August 1919. In 1948 he married Elizabeth Walker Simpson. He died on 25 February 1961 at Wellington, aged 63 years. He was cremated at Karori and his ashes interred in the Soldiers Niche at Karori, Elizabeth died in 1983 and her ashes were interred with Herbert’s.
