Biographical Notes

Robert George Graham was born on 16 June 1885 at Greta, Victoria, Australia, the son of Alexander and Martha (née Kershaw) Graham. His father died in 1902 and Robert came to New Zealand about 1912. Robert married Emily Rees on 25 September 1915 at St Stephen’s Church, Peel Forest. A sawmiller at Rangitata, he was called up in 1917. Private R. G. Graham embarked with the New Zealand Medical Corps of the 33rd Reinforcements on 31 December 1917 per the “Athenic” at Wellington, destined for Glasgow, Scotland. R. G. Graham, 3/3701, of Rangitata, returned to New Zealand aboard the “Chupra”, one of 732 soldiers due at Lyttelton about July 22nd, 1919. Robert died on 19 June 1964 at Christchurch, aged 79 years, predeceased by Emily. .
