Biographical Notes

Angus Andrew McDonald was born on 15 August 1881 at Waimate, the third son of Angus and Margaret (née White) McDonald. Angus married Flora Maud Roberts in 1910, and Flora was his next-of-kin when he enlisted. Trooper McDonald embarked with the 7th Reinforcements at Wellington for Suez, Egypt, on 9 October 1915. He returned to New Zealand in March 1918. The South Canterbury men came from Lyttelton by special train expected mid afternoon on the 19th March. Angus Andrew McDonald of Rangiora, died on 21 April 1937 at Christchurch, aged 55 years, and was buried at Rangiora. A younger brother, Donald Henry McDonald, was killed in action in 1918 in France.
