Biographical Notes

Cecil Bertram Anderson, known as Bertram or Bertie, was born on 22 September 1883 at Burkes Pass, the third son of John and Annie (née Middleton) Anderson. He attended Washdyke School very briefly before going to Albury School and from there to Fairlie Creek.

The name of Cecil B. Anderson – wounded - appeared in Casualty List No. 725, published in the Timaru Herald of 27 November 1917. In 1919 Bertram married Katie Agnes Keefe (Keeffe), a Burkes Pass girl and sister of Edgar Joseph Keeffe who was killed in action in 1915 at Gallipoli, and of Alexander Bruce Smith Keeffe who also served in World War One. Two brothers of Bertie also served in World War One – the oldest, James Herbert Charles Anderson (45805), and the youngest, Edwin John Anderson (8/1923).
