Biographical Notes

James Liston was born on 26 April 1887 at Pleasant Point, the youngest son of Thomas and Bridget (née O’Connell) Liston. Although he was given the name Michael at registration, he was baptised James on 8 June 1887 in the Temuka Catholic Parish. James married Agnes Delury on 26 January 1916 at Timaru. Their daughter Joan was born on 4 October 1917 at Timaru. James Liston was a farmer at Levels, when his name was drawn in the Military Service Ballot late in 1916. He subsequently enlisted but did not see overseas service. His brother John was also called up. James and Agnes and their daughter Joan are buried at Pleasant Point.
