Biographical Notes

Stanley Pepper was born on 29 June 1895 at Papanui, Christchurch, the son of James Alexander and Elizabeth (née Milne) Pepper. He was educated at Elmwood and Fendalton schools in Christchurch. S. Pepper was part of South Canterbury’s quota for the Ninth Reinforcements which left South Canterbury for Trentham on 18 October 1915. Stanley was a cadet with New Zealand Railways, residing at Timaru, when he enlisted. Stanley married Gladys Etty Radford in 1920.
