Biographical Notes

Ronald George Bain was the older son of Alexander and Jane (née McMillan) Bain. Born on 20 June 1887 at Fairlie, he was educated at Ashwick Flat School. He was farming at Ashwick Flat, near Fairlie, when he enlisted. Rifleman R. G. Bain returned home invalided by the hospital ship “Marama” in January 1919 and proceeded to Hanmer for treatment. He was discharged on 28 April 1920, on account of illness contracted on Active Service. Ronald married Beatrice Robson Ayson in 1923.
