Biographical Notes

Reginald Percival Brasell, known as Rex, was born on 9 November 1897 at Timaru, the youngest son of Robert and Eliza Emily (née Lane) Brasell. Along with his siblings he was educated at Timaru Main School. He was a plasterer living at home with his mother when he enlisted. His father had died in 1912. R. P. Brasel [sic] was in quite a large draft of men who went into camp at the beginning of March 1918 as South Canterbury’s quota for the 39th Reinforcements. Before leaving the men were given a brief farewell at the Drill Shed. Rex married Clarice May Skellern in 1925. His brother, Frank Walter Brasell, also served in World War I, and a cousin, Alfred Brasell was killed in action in 1917 at Messines.
