Biographical Notes

Alexander Edward Dickson (born Alexander Edwin Dickson) was the son of John and Martha (née Palmer) Dickson. Born on 1 April 1887 at Kuri Bush, Otago, he was educated at the local school, leaving at the age of fourteen as he was “required at home”. Alexander named Mrs Cuttle, a friend, as his next-of-kin. Mr Cuttle was the hotel keeper of the Arowhenua Hotel where Alexander was living at the time of enlisting. He died on 13 September 1954 at Invercargill, the result of an accident, and was buried in the Eastern Cemetery, Invercargill. Three brothers served in World War I, Henry Leslie Dickson being killed in action in 1917 in France.
