Biographical Notes

Lemuel Henry Greenaway was born on 31 March 1884 at Temuka, the son of William and Eva (née Newport) Greenaway. His father died in 1897. Lemuel married Emma Waller on 22 September 1915 at Geraldine. They had a daughter Elsie Gladys, born at Geraldine on 7 February 1917 and Lorna Ellen born at Geraldine on 28 November 1918, five months after Lemuel had embarked for Liverpool. L. H. Greenaway, 78237, returned to New Zealand per the “Arawa” (Draft No. 244), reaching Lyttelton about 12 May 1919. Lemuel’s brother, James also served in World War I. ,
