Biographical Notes

Leone Grandi, born on 28 July 1895 at Timaru, was the son of John James and Frances (née Newland) Grandi. He was educated at Timaru Main and Waimataitai schools, going out to work at the age of fourteen. L. Grandi, 34598, returned to New Zealand per the “Arawa” (Draft No. 244), reaching Lyttelton about 12 May 1919. Leone also married a Newland – Mary Ann, at St Mary’s Timaru in 1921.
