Biographical Notes

Bryce Wright, born on 18 July 1885 at Dunedin, was the oldest son of Bryce and Jessie (née Russell) Wright. He was educated at Totara School near Oamaru, Oamaru South School, and Gapes Valley School, leaving there for Geraldine in 1896. Bryce was farming at Cricklewood when he enlisted. He married Helen Constance Dare (Constance) in 1921. Bryce Wright died very suddenly on 23 March 1936, collapsing while he was attending a stock sale at Pongaroa. He had taken up a farm at Ttiraumea in about 1919. It was in 1919 that his mother died suddenly at her home at Cricklewood. He left his widow and four young children - a son (a student at Waitaki Boys’ High School) and three daughters. His brother, Gray Russell Wright, also served in World War I, embarking with the Main Body in 1914.
