Biographical Notes

William Joseph Rosevear, the son of Albert and Alice Mary (née Knight) Rosevear was baptised on 5 March 1881 at St Mawgan-in-Pyder, Cornwall. William was at home with his family at Mawgan in 1881 and at St Columb in 1891. He married Lottie Rose D’Amour Osborne, only sister of Thomas Edwin, William Henry and Harry John Teague Osborne, on 28 July 1909 in Cornwall, England. Their son, Harry Osborne Rosevear was born on 2 August 1910 in Cornwall. In 1911 William, Lottie and baby Harry were at Penzance, Cornwall, where William was a police constable. A daughter, Estelle Olive Rosevear, was born on 12 September 1912 at Timaru. In September 1911, William travelled via New York for New Zealand. Known as Janny, William was janitor for the Timaru Boys’ High School at the time of enlisting, a position he held for 33 years (1913-1946), known as Janny. His name had been drawn in the ballot.
