Biographical Notes

James Alexander Eaton was the son of Thomas Eaton and his second wife, Annie née Lonie. He was educated at Woodbury School, and then at Waltham and Woolston schools after the family moved to Christchurch in the early 1900s. James married Beatrice Shueller on 5 February 1919 at Auckland, and secondly Ethel Izona Mulford in 1939, after Beatrice's death in 1931. His brother Thomas William Eaton also served in World War I, and his half-brother, John Robert Eaton, enlisted.
