Biographical Notes

John Edward Hunt was the younger son of John Edward and Sarah Jane (née Mayer) Hunt. Jack, as he was known, was educated at Timaru Main School. His brother Henry Robert Hunt also served with the New Zealand Forces. Jack was discharged on 29 August 1916 in England, when he was granted a commission in the Royal Flying Corps. His sister, Mrs T. E. Bowes, of Fairlie, received a cable with this advice. As of July 1917 he was back in France. See letter in North Otago Times, 30 October 1916. Jack married Annie Augusta Barbara Waters in 1920 in New Zealand. Jack and Annie were in Wellington in the 1930s but were back at Purley, Surrey by the 1939 Regidter, Annie's mother with them.Annie died in England in 1976.
