Biographical Notes

Archibald Graham Valentine was the eldest son of James (Jim) Archibald and Helen (née Jefcoate) Valentine. He was educated at Balclutha District High School until the family moved to Timaru in 1899, when Archibald entered Timaru South School where his father was a teacher (headmaster?). Frtom there he continued his education at Timaru Boys High School. In June 1915 his father received a letter from Archibald who had been wounded at the Dardanelles. Archibald married Ruby Florence Jones on 2 June 1916 at Timaru. His brother James Jefcoate also served in World War I.
