Biographical Notes

Henry White was the eldest of Joseph and Ellen (née Wilks) White. His father Joseph died in 1897, and his youngest brother, Joseph, died in 1915. Henry was called up in 1917. His appeal was dismissed and he was set down for home service. when he applied for time till July 1918, it was agreed to. He had married Johanna Mary Farrell on 21 January 1918 at Waimate. His brother, Sergeant William White, was awarded the Distinguished Conduct Medal during the fighting on the Western Front in mid 1918.
