Biographical Notes

Arthur George Helem was the second son of William Sutherland and Lucy Sophia (née Denton) Helem. He was baptised at the Geraldine Presbyterian Church. arthur spent a month at Timaru South School in 1901. He married Elizabeth Ann Miles in 1915 at Greymouth. They had one daughter. Elizabeth tragically drowned in early December 1924 at Moana on the West Coast.Two brothers of Arthur, John and William, also enlisted, William serving overseas.
