Biographical Notes

Sydney Walters was the youngest son of John Harris and Alice Ross (née Fergusson) Walters. His mother died at Orari eight days after the birth of her twelfth child, and when Sydney was only a year old. Sydney married Caroline (Carrie) Copp in 1925. His brother Clarence was killed in action in 1916 at the Somme. Three other brothers served in World War I - Herbert, Leonard and Gordon.
